Sounds of silence and dominance

Somedays so few words come out of my pen or my keyboard. I wonder where the old I has gone. What has happened to me ? Why are my fingers so quiet ? Why do I feel like I have nothing to say but my heart is so heavy that it would surely become lighter if only I would empty it ?

Why do I have a foreboding of evil ? Why can’t I unburden myself ? Why am I so dissatisfied with life ?

It started with my trip home. At the airport on my return trip, my husband says, ” I hate dominating women”. I am put to guessing about who we had met on our trip was dominating. The guessing game went on and on and never once would my husband give a frank answer. But from various hints and clues I could make out that he meant this for my mother. And I have been off mood ever since.

From time immemorial, women have been labelled as dominating. If they take care of the family and then offer advice to their husbands or children, solicited or unsolicited, they are considered dominating. There is no one to take their side. What if women or mothers or wives kept their mouths shut and just did jobs that they were stereotypically expected to do ?

No one would call them dominating. Perhaps just like dieticians tell us to fast every so often, women need to take a day off from talking and offering advice.

Perhaps then the world would appreciate them better !

    1. So true Dr. Linda. When we take our vows to be with one another in sickness and in health, it also means that we need to stick together come what may. Sometimes it seems that men want to be with us only when things are rosy but when things go awry, as they surely sometimes do, then they try to put the blame on the other person and use their arguments to weigh their wives down.
I agree totally they are vulnerable and so they try to make others vulnerable.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and advice.

  1. Yup pretty much have to agree with Linda there. Some men seem to want obedient little women and nothing will change them. I will not hold my voice in for that. Sometimes I would like them to keep their mouths shut. Not a generalization here either because most men I know like a woman who is equal and they like having someone to share with. Isn’t that is what it is about “The Sharing”
I hope you do not shut your mouth but I do hope you find the old “You”. Maybe just sharing here is what you need to do more of I know I for one have missed your posts.
Take care sending my smile to you.

    1. Thank you so much for understanding Donna. I really appreciate your kind words and friendship.
I am constantly working towards an equal relationship and try to not keep my mouth shut but sometimes my mouth aches because my words seem to not reach anywhere.

  2. Susie, It’s not just the women who state their opinions out loud who are dominating, inside every quiet, and seemingly subdued woman, is also a dominating woman who is just a little sneakier in her maneuverings…just my opinion of course. Without women…there would be no men…and definitely there would be no happy men. 😀

    1. Men get a kick out of labeling any woman who is not docile and silent as dominating. I am sure even the meekest of women has been called dominating.
Think of our women leaders- the names they might be called- they would be called dictators, dominating, and so many other epithets. Such is the world and honestly, it is a man’s world.
